Institute of Recycling Technologies

The Institute of Recycling Technologies (IRT) at Faculty of Materials, Metallurgy and Recycling (formerly: Faculty of Metallurgy), Technical University of Košice was founded on 01. February 2016. Due to changes in the organizational structure, two separated departments, in particular, Department of Non-ferrous Metals and Waste Treatment and Department of Chemistry, were integrated as one into Institute. The main target of IRT is to continue in the actual pedagogical and scientific-research activities with its improvement in order to achieve sustainable development in the given scope in accordance with legislative and environmental requirements of presence.

The Institute focuses on problematic of waste treatment and recycling in with aim of material recycling of every individual components in accordance with directive  NR SR  n. 79/2015 about wastes.  Attention is paid on the waste from the industrial sphere as drosses and slags from the aluminum, zinc, and other non-ferrous metals production, steelmaking dust, copper smelting dust and so on. Institute is divided into three branches:

  1. Department of waste treatment
  2. Department of environmental analysis
  3. Technical Department

At the present time the Institute of Recycling Technologies (IRT) guarantees a study branch: Waste Treatment and Recycling in study program 4.3.2 Environmental engineering .
